Western Sydney communities welcome upgraded NSW emissions target
MEDIA RELEASE 23 December 2022
Western Sydney community leaders working together as Voices for Power have welcomed the NSW Government’s new goal of reducing greenhouse gas pollution by 70 per cent by 2035.
“We support the NSW Government taking proactive steps to tackle climate change and transition more quickly to renewable energy,” said Saimi Jeong, a spokesperson for Voices for Power.
“We also want our state government to make sure no one is left behind in this transition.
“Communities in Western Sydney want both major parties to support renters and people on lower incomes to access renewable energy and upgrade their homes so they’re more energy efficient.
“We expect concrete commitments to these measures – which will directly address soaring power bills and reduce emissions at the same time – from any party that wants to get elected in March.”
NSW Treasurer Matt Kean and Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey will meet with an expected 800 representatives from a diverse range of communities and organisations at an assembly in Westmead in March – organised by the Sydney Alliance – ahead of the state election.
