NSW Community Alliance formed to support Sydney & Hunter

On Monday 3rd of April, following a year long process of discernment partner organisations from Sydney Alliance and the Hunter Community Alliance gathered online for an extrodinary meeting of members and made three historic changes.

Sydney Alliance partners unanimously passed constitutional changes to the Sydney Alliance Constitution to become the NSW Alliance for Community Building Ltd (NSW Community Alliance) and adopted all current Sydney, Hunter and statewide organisations as members of the newly named entity.

Combined Sydney, Hunter and statewide organisations voted unanimously to rename the legal structure of the Sydney Alliance to the NSW Alliance.

The new changes mean:

The structure of the NSW Community Alliance is built to optimise the autonomy of the local alliances: the Sydney Alliance and the Hunter Community Alliance.

Each member of the NSW Community Alliance has the right to send 2 delegates to the Sydney Alliance Council and/or the Hunter Community Alliance Council. These Alliance councils operate autonomously on issues, political engagement, campaigns, and tactics.

The NSW Community Alliance has a board that is elected once a year at the December AGM. The NSW Alliance Board will consist of 2 reps from the union, faith, community caucuses and two at large. At least two of the eight directors must be from outside the Sydney metropolitan. The board is responsible for the culture, governance, HR, and advanced training.

The new board structure will be led by the NSW Community Alliance Executive Officer & Lead Organiser David Barrow.

Chantelle Ogilvie Ellis and Cat Coghlan are the new Sydney Alliance Lead Organisers, supporting the ongoing work of the Sydney Alliance.

David will be taking up a role as the Hunter Community Alliance organiser three days a week from April 18th on the invitation of the leadership of the HCA.

Other regions of NSW that are interested in forming a local Alliance are encouraged to connect and start a conversation for the common good.
